Jessie Royer, Jeff King, John Baker on the Yukon

Here some pictures of dog teams on the Yukon RIver

Jessie Royer has passed John Baker on the run to Anvik and Jeff King was breathing down his neck too. The warm weather is for sure not ideal for John´s Team, which is trained up the arctic coast in Kotzebue. Jessie on the other hand, has trained in exactly these conditions down in Montana all winter. So her team is thriving. She was not even ski poling as she usually is, and still is clocking over 9 mph. Just thought about it…. looks like Jessie is leading two Iditarod Champions into the checkpoint. She is keeping good company.

Its fun watching places come and go, specially when they are trying to go south in a very strong headwind. Its looks like they are stalling in mid air. Listening to a pilot sitting behind me, he just told a colleague, that he has not had to work this hard for a landing in a long time, still full throttle in the final approach.

Somebody just brought me a sandwich than Gerd walks in with a roll of Pringles and a Coke. LIFE IS GOOD, I think I can make it down the trail now and refrain from dropping Gerd.
