ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - (Friday, March 13, 2009)
IDITAROD XXXVII Musher Lance Mackey (Bib # 47) arrived in Anvik, Alaska at 12:12 pm Alaska Time with 16 dogs and is officially the first musher to reach The Mighty Yukon. The Anvik Church bell rang loudly as the two- time Iditarod Champion arrived. Mackey was greeted by well wishers and an eight course meal courtesy of the Anchorage Millennium Hotel, proud "Lead Dog" Partner of "The Last Great Race" to Nome.
As the recipient of the "First Musher to the Yukon Award", Mackey was treated to an eight course meal prepared on camp stoves by Millennium's Food and Beverage Director William Wallace. His formally dressed assistant, the Millennium's General Manager Sue Kenyon, served the ceremonial dinner to Lance.
This year's menu included Braised Pork Belly, Heirloom Beets Salad, Crab Agnolotti, Alaskan Bouillabaisse, Breast of Duck, an Artisan Cheese Plate, Flamed Strawberries Romanoff, and an After Dinner Mint of $3500.00 presented on an "Alaskan Gold Pan" - all accompanied by a bottle of Dom Perignon.
