Lachlan Clarke, 53, was born and raised in Derby, New York. He graduated from Principia College in Illinois in 1979 with a B.A. in History & Business Administration. In 1989, he moved to Colorado to work on ranches with horses, people and cattle. He has been a horse trainer for 20 years. After taking a dog sled tour in 2001, Lachlan bought 16 dogs and started training for the 2003 Iditarod. Since beginning distance racing, he hasn't lost the goal of a top 30 finish in the Iditarod. He says that in recent years he has bought one or two dogs a year that he believes will improve the quality of the kennel in the future years. "We are continually balancing our love and work with horses and dogs. Sled dogs and horses compliment each other, as I've found myself using certain aspects of training and observation with both dog and horse disciplines. Linda and I both love our work with our dogs and training for the Iditarod is such an all encompassing project. I know we can have a successful Iditarod as we gain our dogs' faith and trust. We're blessed with great sponsors who believed in us enough to get us to the 2010 Iditarod. Lachlan is a member of he American Polocrosse Association, AQHA and AERC. In his spare time he enjoys polocrosse (horse sport), ranch horse versatility competition, training horses, team roping and distance bicycle riding. He is married to Linda.
