Jeff Deeter, 21, began mushing in the fall of 2003 as a handler and puppy trainer for Iditarod veteran Frank Sihler. Pursuing a childhood dream of running "The Last Great Race", Jeff began establishing his own kennel in the spring of 2004. After running numerous mid-distance races and finishing the 2008 Iditarod, Jeff took a season off racing to attend school at the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a focus on Alaskan history. Unable to stay away from the addiction of sled dogs and racing, Jeff, now 21, returns to the 2010 Iditarod with the goal of improving on his previous 59th place finish. "I would like to thank my parents, Eric and Gretchen, and Scott Smith at Warm Springs Kennels, as well as all of my friends and supporters who have made this race possible." In the summers, Jeff works for Alaska Excursions running dog tours, and also enjoys biking, running, reading and the great outdoors. Learn more at Jeff’s website: www.jeffdeeter.com |
