Iditarod Musher Profile

Rick Horstmann, 60, was born in New York. He was raised on the East Coast and received his BSME from the US Naval Academy, his master's in education from West Florida and his master's in Administration from Notre Dame.  He lived in California and worked as a pilot there before moving to Alaska in 1993 for "flying and mushing." He actually began mushing in 1998 and became interested in running the Iditarod after flying the Iditarod Trail. He started the Iditarod in 2002 but scratched. He currently owns Wings and Paws flying service. Rick is married to Linda and says his hobby is flying.
