Will You be in Alaska for the Start of the Race?

Don't miss these events!

by Education Department

02/02/2008

Are you an Idita- Rider?  Are you a race fan? Are you a teacher headed to see the start of the race so you can share it with your students?  If you plan on being in Alaska for the start of the Iditarod, don't miss the opportunities before you!

The week before the start of the race is jam packed with events to provide you with many opportunities to learn about the race.  These activities are appropriate for not only teachers, but for our non-teaching race fans as well.

The Education Conference for Teachers will be held Feb. 26 - 29.  Opportunities to meet the 2008  Target® Iditarod Teacher on the TrailTM and the finalists for the 2009 Teacher will provide a great deal of lesson ideas and the inspiration you need to bring back quality teaching and learning opportunities for your students and/or your communities.  Special sessions and speakers provide a vast base of knowledge and the opportunity to connect with other educators and race fans is empowering.

Participants can attend all 4 days or the day or events that best meet the individual goals and time schedules of those in Alaska for the start of the race.  For the complete agenda and registration materials CLICK HERE.

Special  Events and Speakers on Friday, Feb.29, at the Millennium on the third floor:

David Monson:  9:00

Hobo Jim:  10:15

Libby Riddles:  1:00

Dr. Stuart Nelson, Jr., DVM, 2:30

Each speaker event lasts about 1 hour.  Tickets are $25 per person - per event.

The proceeds from the events help fund the activities of the education department striving to bring teaching and learning opportunities to students around the world.  Thematic instruction connecting the race to the cultural and content standards, using technology, and teaching/learning about a real time event in real time, highly engages learners from preschool through university level.  Students in all 50 states, from many countries, and on most continents are all using the race in their studies at the same time every year, a global teaching adventure!  Education doesn't get much more powerful than that!

An Iditarod Author Book Signing and Book Sale event will be held between 11:30 - 1:00 Friday, Feb.20, with several famous authors in attendance.  This provides our participants with the opportunity to purchase books and get them autographed.  THIS EVENT IS FREE.

Join us on the 3rd floor of the Millennium.  Bring your camera!  Buy a book!  Bring home a treasure!

If you are going to be in Alaska for the start of the race, you don't want to miss these events.
