Gearing up for the Race with Behind the Scenes News

itczumachalkHello Boys and Girls,

Just a quick note to tell you that the volunteers of the Iditarod are the backbone of staging the race.  Without their help, this race would not take place.  So thanks, volunteers!

This week, volunteers have helped to organize drop bags for the trail.  (Read Gypsy’s article to learn about drop bags.)  These bags with people food or other supplies are all sent to various checkpoints on the trail.  When mushers arrive, the bags will be waiting for them.  Lots of other work has been going on, too, like trail breaker volunteers, working on the trail, and COMMS (communications) volunteers getting all set up.  The Iditarod store has opened at Anchorage HQ – The Lakefront Hotel.  Volunteers are receiving job assignments and so much is happening behind the scenes that it makes my tail and my head spin in opposite directions.  Woof!  Woof!  HOWL!  I’m getting so excited for the race!

The K9 Journalists are starting to work on and publish articles, too.  They are howling to get going!

The race always starts the first Saturday in March —  We’ll soon be at the starting line.

Lots of Tail Wags,

Zuma
