SATURDAY MARKS OPENING DAY FOR ENTRIES FOR IDITAROD XLII

Wasilla, Alaska – (June 27, 2013) – Saturday promises to be a busy and exciting day at Iditarod Trail Committee (ITC) Headquarters in Wasilla as many of the mushers who will compete in the 42nd running of the Iditarod next March will be on hand for opening day for entries. All mushers who enter the 2014 race either in-person or by mail before 3:00 p.m. on Saturday will be in the first draw. Mushers have through November 29 to enter the race.

The annual meeting of the Iditarod Trail Committee and the annual volunteer picnic will also be taking place on Saturday. For the hundreds of volunteers who will be on hand, it is a fun day as they are honored by ITC for their efforts and the event provides the first twinge of excitement about what lies ahead next March. Race Sponsor Golden Corral will be on hand to cater the volunteer event.

Parking for the Volunteer Picnic is available at the Smith Ball Fields adjacent to Iditarod Headquarters.

Iditarod XLII will get underway on Saturday, March 1 in downtown Anchorage at the corner of 4th Avenue and D Street.
