My school, Northwest Elementary in Kinston, NC, participated in the IditaRead™
for the first time this year.
We challenged our 3-5th graders to see if they could read 1049 books. We started on February 22, and boy did the kids read! We had no idea that they would take to it quite like they did. We were thrilled to find that in only one week, we had already read over 300 books!
As students finished their books, they would get a sled dog card to fill out with the title of the book and their name. Cards were posted all along the wall in a trail with check points marking their progress. Our new goal became to see if we could read 1049 books before the first musher crossed the finish line. We succeeded.
By Friday, March 12, the students had read 1095 books! We are so proud of our students for their great success! We will definitely participate next year!
