Take Care of Your Pets

Libby Here!

I told you about the important detail of making sure the dogs of the Iditarod are healthy.

Just like mushers and veterinarians take good care of the dogs, I know you take good care of your own pets.  Here are some things to think about…..

1.  Make sure you take your pet to the vet.  The vet is your friend and will help you with all your questions.  Pets needs shots, healthy meals, fresh water, and exercise.  Your vet will tell you all you need to know.

2.  Feed your dog or other pet healthy meals and make sure  fresh water is available. Give your pets healthy treats (yum, yum, spin, spin, spin and chase my tail!) because healthy treats can help keep your pet’s teeth clean and healthy.  It helps your pet have good breath, too!  (Spinning and laughing about that because no body likes to smell bad breath, human or canine!)

3.  Make sure your pet gets the exercise that it needs.  Walk your dog or if you have a cat, make sure your cat has things to climb on and play with to get exercise.  All pets, no matter what kind they are need to have exercise!  All pets love to play!  SO, spin, spin, spin around and have some fun with your pet.  I love it when my human spins when I spin!

4.  Make sure your pet has a warm, safe, and healthy place to sleep or take naps.  Taking naps is one of my favorite things to do.  I love cozy pillows to nap on or doggie beds placed in a spot where the warm sunshine comes into the room. Oh I have the best naps and dreams…   I like to take naps in quiet places, out of the path of humans walking around in the house so I can snooze without worrying about someone getting too close to my sleeping space.  I love taking naps! Did I already say that to you?   I think I love taking naps almost as much as spinning so don’t be surprised if I tell you how much I love naps again and again!

5.  Spend time playing and getting to know your pet.  Pets need to have rules to follow.  Teach rules to your pet.  If you have a dog, you could go to a class to train your dog so you know how to keep your dog healthy and safe.

Just spinning some De’tails’!

Libby

P.S. I love taking naps.  Do you?
