When you are learning about Iditarod, have you heard the word COMMS?

COMMS is a word that stand for Race Communications.

Iditarod sends COMMS volunteers to each checkpoint.

The COMMS volunteers do lots of jobs but an important job they do is race communications.

COMMS volunteers send the name of the musher, the time a musher arrives, and the number of dogs a musher has or the time and dog information of a musher that leaves a checkpoint.

Most of the time this information is sent on the computer but sometimes COMMS  has to use phone or other ways to send information.
