Got Snow???

Hi Boys and Girls, Do you have snow where you live? If you do you’re pretty lucky. Anchorage, where the ceremonial start of the Iditarod begins, doesn’t have snow. That’s very unusual for this time of year. It also causes a huge problem. How can you start the Iditarod with no snow? The first decision that was made was to shorten the route of the Ceremonial Start. Instead of the usual 11 miles, the route will only cover 3 miles this year. It will still start in downtown Anchorage but will end at the Davenport baseball fields instead of the Campbell Airstrip. Even doing that, there wasn’t enough snow. So seven rail cars of the Alaska Railroad are being filled with snow in Fairbanks and then hauled to Anchorage. There the snow will be unloaded and used along the 3 mile trail. It’s a lot of work but will be worth it! The restart is still scheduled to be in Willow on Sunday. Only two more days until the Ceremonial Start. I can’t wait!!! Happy Trails, Gypsy
