Hi Boys and Girls,
Some of the mushers have finished their 24 hours rest, while a few others have just started taking theirs. If you look at the update page at Iditarod.com, you will see boxes on the far right. If a musher has completed their 24 hour rest, you’ll see a check in the appropriate box. There’s a lot of strategy going on right now. The next couple of days will be fun to watch.
Of the top 5 mushers only Mitch Seavey in 5th place has completed his 24 hour rest.
Joar Leifseth Ulsom in Iditarod
Lars Monsen in Iditarod
Larry Daughtery out of Ophir
Jeff King Out of Ophir
Mitch Seavey Out of Ophir
The Red Lantern Position is:
Tara Cicatello out of Nikolai
The Rookie of the Year position is:
Jesse Holmes in 17th place is in Ophir, looks like he’s taking his 24.
Scratched:
No one.
Awards:
The GCI Dorothy G. Page Halfway Award was awarded to Joar Leifseth Ulsom for being the first musher to reach the checkpoint of Iditarod which is the halfway point in the race. Joar received a trophy and $3000 in gold nuggets.
Think about what’s going on in the race. If the first 4 mushers still have to rest for 24 hours. The next 9 mushers have completed their rest. How do you think this affects race positions?
Most of the mushers will be back on the trail today, so watch to see where your musher is.
See you on the trail,
Gypsy
