Update, March 6, 2013- PM edition

Hi Boys and Girls,

Well the teams are starting to take their 24 hour rest.  4 mushers including Martin Buser have already completed their mandatory rest time.  Things will be a little quiet for awhile and will pick up again probably tomorrow afternoon.  Todays picture from Jeff Schultz is of Brent Sas’ team resting.

WHERE ARE THE MUSHERS: Lance, Sonny and Jeff have left Ophir. Jake and Nicolas are in Ophir, The next 4 teams have left Takotna, 27 teams are in Takotna,  14 teams are resting in McGrath, 1 team is between Nikolai and McGrath, 9 teams are resting in Nikolai and 3 teams are between Rohn and Nikolai.

RED LANTERN POSITION: David Sawatzky who has left Rohn.

WEATHER:   From Nikolai to Iditarod there is a severe weather alert issued for the area.  The weather alert is for high winds. It’s currently 20 degrees and lightly snowing

SCRATCHED: No one

AWARDS: PenAir Spirit of Alaska Award given to Jake Berkowitz for being the first musher to arrive in McGrath. 

Answer to Yesterday’s Question: There are two eight hour mandatory rests that must be taken.  The first one has to be taken on the Yukon River and the 2nd one must be taken at White Mountain.
