Hi Boys and Girls,
Happy Monday! The teams are moving down the trail. The top 3 teams have left Shaktoolik and the next 2 are in Shaktoolik. Nicolas Petit is still in the lead and is about 2 ½ hours ahead of Mitch. Can he hold this lead? The teams should start getting into White Mountain later today or early tomorrow. There they will take their mandatory 8 hour rest. Then it’s only 77 miles to Nome. Who do you think will cross the finish line first?
Currently the top 5 have stayed the same and are:
Nicolas Petit
Mitch Seavey
Joar Leifseth Ulsom
Ray Redington Jr.
Peter Kaiser
The Red Lantern Position is:
Tom Schonberger out of Shageluk
The Rookie of the Year position is:
Matt Hall is in 13th position and is in Unalakleet. Also in Unalakleet and 2 hours behind Matt is rookie Jessie Holmes in 18th position.
Scratched:
Ryan Redington scratched in Kaltag in the best interest of the health and welfare of his team.
Awards:
The Bristol Bay Native Corporation Fish First Award was awarded to Nicolas Petit for being the first team into Unalakleet. His award is a certificate for 25 pounds of fresh-caught Bristol Bay Salmon and a check for $2000. He will also receive a wood-burned art piece crafted by BBNC artist Apayo Moore.
Hope you’re having a great day today. Keep watching the race to see what happens next.
See you on the trail,
Gypsy
