Fairbanks Start? No Worries for Teachers!

The Restart is headed to Fairbanks for only the third time in the history of the race! But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with classroom ready materials for your students!

Looking for Fairbanks based math lessons? The Mathing Down the Trail Book features two lessons that feature Fairbanks.  On pages 113-119, the “Passing Time at Checkpoints” lesson features data from the Huslia checkpoint during the 2015 race.  This lesson has the students work on calculating elapsed time. On pages 135-145, the “What is an Average Leg” lessons has students find the distance of an average leg on the Northern, Southern, and Fairbanks routes.
