Half & Half Ears, that’s what handler called this picture. This sprint team has just finished a three-mile run on the trails of the Aurora Track. Some sled dogs have ears that stand straight up. Some have ears that lay flat but this dog’s ears stand half way up and then flop over. The sled dog is a Heinz 57 dog – lots of breeds mixed together. So dogs that have strong Siberian or Malamute bloodlines are most likely to have stand-up ears. Dogs that have lab, retriever or pointer bloodlines are likely to sport floppy ears. Seems that this dog has some bloodlines from both camps. Click the picture to make it larger.
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s telephoto story. Beauty is not in the guidebook nor adventure on the map – seek and you will find. Enjoy!
