GPS Trail Info out of Galena, Noah Burmeister 4th in Galena

For those of you watching the tracker, you most likely saw that Brent did not follow the little red line. That line was done to the best of knowledge and Brent Sass did NOT get off trail, He followed the marked route to Nulato. Normally the trail goes all the way on the Yukon River, this year open water near Bishop Rock prevents Iditarod from using that route. A local from Huslia warned me, that the overland portion of that one will be very bumpy again, with little snow. The route the Iron dog used, which reflects the ” red line ” on the GPS map right now, would be 9 miles longer. The actual route the trail breakers chose, and which is marked, ( and Brent used ) is actually 14 miles longer.

Noah Burmeister is continuing to run a very strong race, He stopped before Ruby and is now the 4th team into Galena, most likely taking his 8 hr layover here. I caught up with him a few miles outside the checkpoint on the Yukon River.

Mitch Seavey’s team is getting some quality rest. I commented to Mitch how I yet have to see him work behind the sled ” And you will not see me, that is their job “, he was referring to his dogs.
