7.42 a.m. Mitch Seavey is in Koyuk 1st

Mitch is in Koyuk at 7.42 a.m. 10 dogs, one in single lead. He parked his team by voice command, not wanting anybody to walk his leader. Sure like that!

I just have been discussing the fact that I saw a lot less spare sleds being send out on the race. For one it is expensive, but also Mushers seem to be more content with their one sled they run. But than listening to Karen Ramstead, who was a race judge in Shageluk, she told a different story. 3 mushers arrived there with severely busted up sleds. Dallas Seavey and Jody Baily broke both runners on his sled. Ramey broke one runner. Dallas got lucky and could use one of his dad Mitch. That sleds than changed hands in Anvik to Jodi, as there Dallas had one waiting.  Ramey continued to run his patched sled up the Yukon River, which apparently was quite a sight.

On a happy and sad note at the same time, all the way at the tail end of the race:  The loose dog of Gerry Willomitzer was found and brought all the way back to Iditarod. That was too far for Gerry to back track and he was officially withdrawn from the race. At least the dog, Montego, one he borrowed short before the race, is safe and sound.
