Aliy Zirkle has arrived in ELIM in 4th place and she is staying for a little while. She pulled her team through the vehicle yard here and the checkers brought her 2 drop bags over. Her time is is 7.57 a.m with 13 dogs, and the dogs look great. It is impressive to see how most of the front teams run such large string of dogs.
Looking up the trail, Mitch Seavey has passed Brent Sass. He now is 5 miles behind his son Dallas Seavey. If he wants to catch him, Mitch better gets off his seat, as Dallas will be helping along every inch of the way. The next team we await here in ELIM is Wade Marrs. Aliy wants to sleep here for half an hour. The veterinarians just came back inside and said that Aliy has a nice looking team. Just to show you how that half an hour really is half an hour. Aliy asked for a wakeup call at 8.47….
I have been chatting here with John Jemewouk, who has been around the race since the beginning. He watched the 1st musher ever to come into Elim Dick Wilmarth come in, at 4 a.m. His family used to house mushers, before the corralling rules. He recounted the story of having Dee Jonrowe and Sue Firmin at their place. ” And they would talk and talk , and did not stop. So I told them, they were so far behind because of it. That got them to quit talking “. Well Aliy Zirkle did not waste any minute here. She is down and out and getting in her mini nap.
