Jessie Royer only stopped for a few minutes in Koyukuk. She left 7 minutes ahead of Dallas Seavey who has rested for 4 hrs there. Dallas is very patient with his runs and keeps them short.
Both Dallas and Jessie were working hard behind the sled. It is a good sign for Jessie Royer that her team can hang with Dallas, as when we passed them both, he had caught up some time, but Jessie was still ahead.
Another cold night is setting on with a beautiful sunset over the Yukon River. 36 more miles and team will get of the Yukon in Kaltag. Trail reports have it, that it continues to be hard, fast and easy. The nice conditions are well reflected in the dog numbers each team has. From first to 14th, each team has 12 dogs or more. Impressive.
Not sure yet where we end up tonight. I would like to continue past Kaltag, but we have not been able to get gas in Koyukuk nor here Nulato, the gas station ( for lack or words ) is already closed. If we can not find anything in Kaltag tonight, we have to stay before continuing on.
Here some more shots from Dallas and Jessie:
