The winning team is laying there!

Short before leaving Kaltag, I walked around the doglot, as usual looking for some shots. Most of the mushers were milling around and feeding. Jake and Mitch were very upbeat and joking around. When I asked them about how their teams look, Jake pointed into the dog yard and said the winning team is laying right there. That’s right retorts Mitch, mine is laying there next to yours.

Aaron’s team is not looking shabby neither, he dropped Governor, he still has 13 dogs left and they sure also eat like Wolves.

Martin has dropped to 3rd place and than there is Dallas Seavey, with a strong surge from behind. Driving 10 dogs, but obviously 10 good honest dogs. I do not even have a picture of him to put up. Just looked at some stats. It show Dallas runtime is 10.44 into Kaltag. But than when I study the tracker, I can see he rested for 3 hrs form 2.20 to 5.10 p.m. !!! THAT MEANS he did the run in about 7 hr 50 min. THAT IS 1.5 hrs faster than his dad Mitch!!! and Mitch was even 2 hrs faster than Martin. Dallas is on the Go!!!! Watch him! He is only 6 miles behind Aaron Burmeister, who currently is leading, as Aliy stopped.

The ride from Kaltag over was fun. except the first 18 miles out of town. They are really chewed up trail, as some people were playing powder surfing. Not nice for the dogs, as it is a mogely trail anyhow. Than once the trail hits the burn, things get better. Nobody was at Tripod flats cabin. A few snowmachines were parked to Old Woman Cabin. After old woman, the musher will be into a bit of a blustery ride. Its blowing 20 to 25 miles an hour. The trail is well marked and well defined though. Lots of snow has already blown away, so it should not drift in too bad. The waiting game begins!

Alway love getting to the coast! Unalakleet at last
