No more than three (3) sleds can be used by a musher during the race after the re-start.  No more that two (2) sleds can be shipped beyond the restart. (Rule 15 of the Official Race Rules)

The wind chargers stand like sentinels near the village of Unalakleet.  The turbines suppliment diesel generated electricity saving thousands of gallons of diesel every year.  One translation of the name Unalakleet is ‘place where the east wind blows.’

Fans and family often order pizza to be delivered as their musher nears the Unalakleet checkpoint.  Talk about a bright spot for a musher who has been surviving on seal-a-meals for a week.
