Aliy Zirkle camped 8 miles before Kaltag

While snowmachining out to take a few more pictures I eventually met up with Aliy Zirkle, camped out in a nice and sunny spot on the Yukon River, near a bluff, about 8 miles before Kaltag. She was dozing in the sun. Her dogs had just finished a meal. When talking to her, she told me she did not want to run longer than 8 hrs, that is why she camped. Back in 2011 I pushed into Kaltag in about the same daytime, while fellow Yukoner Hans Gatt did exactly what Aliy did and camped on the river, instead of running into the heat of the day. During the run to Unalakleet, Hans not only passed me, he left me in the dust and arrived in Unalakleet about 40 minutes ahead of me. So in short….. I like Aliy’s plan.

Here a few pictures of her campout
