A very unfortunate incident happened this morning here in Nulato. Both Aliy Zirkle and Jeff King’s teams were attacked by a snowmachiner. Here is the link to the official press release.
Both Aliy and Jeff handled the situation very well. Jeff is still sleeping in the checkpoint and Aliy is on her way to Kaltag. Jeff King had a piece of the cowling of the snow machine, which ultimately led to the identification the suspect. I’d like to point out: THIS IS NOT NULATO. this is just one bad person. The people of Nulato have given the mushers a VERY warm welcome, this year and in years past. The local people here are equally devastated by what happened.
