Twenty Iditarod volunteers – comms, vets and others are sitting at Gate L1 in the airport awaiting a PenAIr Charter to Unalakleet. We hear it’s 38 below out there at the first checkpoint on the Bering Sea Coast. Nancy Yoshida who’ll work at Safety and I sit with warm gear close at hand and wait to board.
