
Wade Marrs is one of the young guys on the trail this race. Finishing in 8th place is something he’s really proud and worked very hard with his friends (dogs) to accomplish. Wade says, “Running Iditarod is an interesting challenge that tests him mentally and physically but more so, he’s amazed to watch his dogs perform. Wade began running dogs in 1996 at the age of five. He first ran the Junior Iditarod in 2007 and two years later he did his rookie Iditarod.
Wade finish 47th in his rookie Iditarod. In 2013 he improved to 32nd place. Mars improved by 16 places in 2014 to capture 16th place with a time of 9 days 17 hours and 27 minutes. To break into the top ten for the first time in his Iditarod career, Marrs ran the distance from Fairbanks to Nome in 9 days 8 hours and 15 minutes.
The Nome Kennel Club present an award to the musher in the top twenty who has the fastest time from Safety to Nome. Of the teams to cross the finish line today, Marrs has the best time for the final twenty-two miles of the race with a run of 2 hours and 30 minutes. thus far he’s edged Nicholas Petit out be one minute. Nine mushers to go before we’ll know who’s captured that honor.
