This is interesting to look at. Mitch Seavey had left Ophir 16 minutes ahead of Hugh Neff , at 1.26 a.m. Where Mitch rested almost 4 hrs on the trail, Hugh has been running straight through. And Mitch repassed him on the way to Cripple. Not much else need to be said about the speed of each musher’s team.
When I met Hugh on the trail a few miles outside here of Cripple he had one of his dogs riding in the basket and called over ” the last one of my yearlings “. As opposed to the prior teams, both Mitch and Hugh were not ski poling or pedaling. Matter of fact Hugh Neff was sitting down. In the old days, he used to give me hard time when he saw me sitting. The sun is up full on now. Good time to rest for the teams here.
My time here in Cripple is numbered, it soon gets time to move on to Ruby, catch up with Brent while he is camped out, about 5 miles past the checkpoint here.
Here are some pictures.
