Pied Piper and Deep Competition for Top 20

Joar Leifseth Ulsom made it into Elim. He wants to stay for about half an hour. He must have felt like the PIED PIPER coming in:

Same as the mushers for the Top 5 were racing all out, only resting very short times along the coast, the competition for the Top 20 is no  less. Often only minutes separate several finishing positions. 14 teams are en route to Elim right now for a 44 mile stretch of trail. Most teams only rest between 3 and 4 hours in Koyuk. Only Ken Anderson stayed close to 5 hrs. He often skips a rest in Elim and most likely tried to set his team up for a long run. Ken basically left at the same time as Jessie Royer, who right now is rounding out the Top 20. Jessie is still running 13 dogs strong.

The next team to arrive here in Elim is Joar Leifseth Ulsom. He is the highest placing Norwegian Team, although with him living in Willow for many years, I think of him more as an Alaskan team. The first true Norwegian Team is Ralph Johannessen, who is currently in 10th place, 2 places ahead of his long time competitor and 2 time Iditarod Champion Robert Sorlie.

The highest placing Canadian Team is Michelle Phillips, currently in 13th place. Her goal before the race was to crack the Top 10. She could still do that, but competition is stiff, as the 2 teams ahead of her account for 6 Iditarod Championships with Jeff King and  Robert Sorlie.

Here are some pictures of Joar Leifseth Ulsom into Elim. Once again upon his arrival, the checkpoint was empty:

Update, he did not stay long. In at 13.39, out at 13.54. Fast pace
