Eye on the Trail: Rookie Review – Peter Reuter

Peter Reuter wearing Bib #53 in Anchorage

Peter Reuter earned a degree in Forestry from Paul Smith’s College in New York. He grew up in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. At the age of 54 he’s taking to the Iditarod trail. He began mushing 35 years back with a team of Malamlutes and started giving sled dog tours in the early 1990’s in the Adirondacks.

In 2012 he came to Alaska to work as a guide and race sled dogs. Safe to say his trip to Nome will be powered by Alaskan Huskies rather than Malemutes. Peter has been working for Seavey’s Ididaride on the Punchbowl Glacier in Girdwood.

While on the trail in 2017, he’ll be running a team of dogs from Dean Osmar’s Cook Inlet Kennel. Peter says, “I am running Iditarod for the challenge and joy of running 1,000 miles with incredible dogs through amazing terrain!”

Peter’s hobbies are hunting, fishing and playing bluegrass music.
