Aaron Burmeister into Galena in third with ” Alligator dogs “.

As the sun has come up over the Yukon River, temperatures are starting to climb a bit. Aaron is on a very nice runtime schedule, now being able to park the dogs for a good long rest. They can sleep away and recharge in the warm afternoon hours. I am sure Aaron will not mind a nap neither, it has been a long night for him. He came with a surprise surge from the run out of Cripple, surprise to us that is, as I am sure he had this well planned. Aaron is sure not having the easiest of runs in Iditarod 42. Not only is he dealing with a knee injury, he has also dropped two of his main leaders, Remmy and Ruger who are both in their prime. I had the privilege of running them were they were just 2 year olds in 2011. Setbacks or not…. Aaron is pushing on. Nome bound….

Watching Aaron take care of his team was a pleasure. A key factor in a team’s success is the eating habits. And boy, did his dogs eat. They wolfed down the food like Alligators.  Actually barking at the line like Governor, who simply could not wait long enough for the food to arrive. While there was several piles of food left at Martin’s team, even he could not help but notice how Aaron’s dogs were behaving: ” Geez Aaron, why don’t you breed some better eaters? ” Martin joked. Wel,l the joking ended right there and Martin soon after pulled the hook to head down the trail. I guess he did not want to see any of the mushers chasing him down. The next wave is set to arrive in a couple of hours.
