Brent Sass has run an ambitious race schedule this year. I kept the foot on the throttle till the end, despite being passed by both Seavey past the Unalakleet Checkpoint. Leaving White Mountain, it shows that his dogs would have rather stayed a few more hours on the straw, as you can see by his tracker, it is a bit of slow going. He dropped 3 dogs and is leaving with 10 dogs.
In the meantime Pete Kaiser arrived in 6th place and made about half an hour on Wade Marrs on the run over from Elim. The two mushers are now 22 minutes apart. I am sure Wade will do his best to fend off Pete, and Pete will try his best to catch Wade. I doubt if either one will sit down any on the 77 miles to come. One of the footboards on Wade’s sled had come loose and he tried to rig up a reattachment.
Here some pictures of the checkpoint action and Brent’s team leaving.
