Joar Leifseth Ulsom 3rd and Jessie Royer 4th into Kaltag

The Top 4 Teams have arrived in Kaltag. Everybody is happy to get off the Yukon River. Joar Leifseth Ulsom’s team looked very animated when coming in, rolling in the snow. After dropping one of his main leaders, Joar commented how he had to put “ a big goofball “ up in lead.

A short time later Jessie Royer came in. At first she was a bit in a bad mood, after loosing her Camera on the river: “ It had a ton of pictures on it “. Likely she lost it at her last campout. Maybe she gets lucky and another musher picks it up and brings it to the checkpoint. Jessie came well equipped with waders tied up by bailing twine. “ At least I stayed completely dry “ Jessie ginned. In many prior races Jessie has kept on going to Tripod Flats cabin, 26 miles down the trail. When I asked her if she would keep on going she quipped back: “ Are you crazy? Not after this run “. So all 4 teams are stacked up here in Kaltag. Likely Jessie and Peter Kaiser will leave close to the same time. I suspect Nicolas Petit will pull the hook first, followed sometime later by Joar Leifseth Ulsom. 42 miles of deep snow lays ahead of them. Once they make it past Old Woman Cabin, the snow is less deep and they should have a nice tail wind.
