The next 2 teams making it into Koyuk are Kelly Maixner and Paul Gebhardt. Kelly is currently running in career best position too. He was right in the front of the mix very early in the race. The old adage ” no race has ever been won on the first day, but many have been lost ” still holds true today, specially looking back at the stats who ran in the Top 5 and even Top 10 in Nenana or Tanana. After being forced out of the race in the late stages last year, I wonder how much that weighs on Kelly’s mind and how careful he will play it up the coast here now.
