There have been several new arrivals. When asking Jeff King about how his race is going, he answered there were the most fun 24 hrs in Iditarod in a long time. He was pleased with his team’s performance. A standout dog for me is always big Barnum. I wish I had bred Skunk to him a few years ago. Maybe Dream and Barnum would also make a good combo. That being said…. with that thinking I never move onto a sailboat…
Rick Casillo has run the Iditarod since 2004. At the time working for Mitch Seavey. Today he followed his ex-mentor into the checkpoint of Rainy Pass. That must have felt good to him. Rick used to mock me about my sit down sled, and now is using one himself. The good old saying” wait till you are my age “. Rick’s team was not quite cooperative when trying to find a parking spot. It took some convincing to have them move down the line of parked teams, first they tried taking the checkers tent down, with Rick’s snow hook attaching to one of the tent poles, then they tried visiting with some tourists along they way. 26th place was Rick’s best finish to date in 2014.
I am going to move down the trail here soon. There is good coverage up here in Rainy, plenty of people here. I have to admit I am always a bit nervous myself about going down Dalzell. So I am going to take my time. And the snowless burn will most likely take along time to navigate through.
Take a good look at the trackers. There might be some drama in the back of the Pack. Patrick Beall and Larry Daugherty might really have missed the trail, and basically backtracked to Yentna, instead of going to Finger Lake. Their trackers are way off course….
Noah Burmeister has just come and left. He is the second team out of Rainy Pass. Time to catch some shots of him in the high country.
Most likely I am going to be in an internet void all the way to Nikolai tomorrow morning! Sorry!!!!, but this is bush Alaska after all. Happy trails…. till tomorrow….
