6 p.m. Elim Icecapades—-Seavey camped on ice, Zirkle leaves Elim and on course to intercept by Joe Runyan

Departing from Elim airport about 6 p.m., we flew over Elim and viewed Dallas Seavey resting about 20 minutes dog driving outside of town, just hidden by a narrow coastal jut of land.  In all, we calculated that he had been resting for 3 hours, while, just for your information, Aliy rested for about 2 hours 15 minutes in the Elim checkpoint. At the same time we could also site Zirkle just descending out of Elim on a long slough onto the sea ice.

It appeared inevitable to us that the two would meet on the ice about 6:05 p.m.

Thinking to confirm that our two leaders were now traveling together, we landed at White Mountain, hustled into the COMMS center to find that Aliy’s GPS tracker worked, but Dallas’ was not functioning.

Interesting, maybe a parka or dog pan over the tracker was compromising the signal?

More —-when we get information

Final thoughts, these two could be pedaling and running, working to get an edge for the next 50 miles to White Mountain.
