Noah Burmeister 6th and Peter Kaiser 7th into Shaktoolik

This is the most dog teams we have seen here so far at the same time. 3 Teams. Wade Marrs walked outside and said, ” They better see me boot up… ”  Noah Burmeister immediately announced, ” I am staying a while, it is getting breezy out there “. Pete Kaiser first inquired about what the other 2 mushers ahead of him were doing, and once he learned that both were still here, he decided to also stay.

Shaktoolik has been a very nice and welcoming checkpoint. Every year it’s like seeing long lost friends here. The checkpoint itself is also run like a well oiled machine by Heidi, Robin and he crew. As you can see by the jacket of one of the veterinarians with all the Iditarod patches on, the volunteers are as addicted as some of the musher. The vets have a hard job here in Shak, the windy conditions do not make examining the dogs any easier. Noah Burmeister will drop one dog.

For me it’s time to put more clothes on, and fire up the iron dog and head towards Koyuk. Enjoy the Shaktoolik Checkpoint shots.
