Real Armchair Mushing

We were going to camp out, but ran into snowmachine trouble. Gerd´s machine will not start without getting boosted, worse off, the starter is stuck ” on “. Not good. Made it to Nikolai, but did not dare to camp out. Bit bummed out to not see the teams pass by, the plan was to camp around Buffalo Camp.

Looking at the times, the current front pack is running a ” more conventional ” schedule than Martin Buser and Matt Failor. The current Top 12, including Brent Sass all blew though Rohn and are going to camp out , thus break the long run to Nikolai into two. That has worked well for me in the past. Its a bumpy ride over very little snow. About 2.5 hrs out of Rohn is a little river with ” running ” water.  Camping is not good there this year, as there is a lot of glare ice in the are. It was also pretty breezy out, so the mushers will have to find a few scheltered spot. I am a bit worried about my friend Gerry Willmoitzer, who took over 8 hrs to reach Rohn, as opposed to the 4.5 hrs for most teams. Not sure if he took a wrong turn somewhere or got hung up on one of the river crossing. Wish I could be a fly on the wall in Rohn.  Check out the real cool videos on the INSIDER!!!!!

Well time for a nap, here a few more pictures, this time in better resolution from our trip today.
