When I met Dallas and Mitch Seavey a mile outside of Koyuk, Dallas called over: ” My dad is going to really hate me in about 10 minutes “. I knew what that meant and sped back to the checkpoint to warn the vet crew that Dallas was going through the checkpoint. Up arrival Mitch declared that he is also not staying. A true battle for 1st place is on. They are parked side by side both loading up their sleds with supplies. 

Brent Sass is feeding his dogs nearby and watching the scene. If he wants to keep up, he will not get much rest here. After a 13 hour run, that is a tough call for Brent. Both Mitch and Dallas have recently rested, Dallas for 2 hrs at a shelter cabin and Mitch for close to 3 hours in Shaktoolik. Dallas’ dogs are barking to go outside and OFF he goes! Impressive!!! 19.42 is his out time, Mitch should follow soon.
