What are Some of the Other Past Champions Doing?

While we wait for 2012, 2016 Yukon Quest Champion Hugh Neff to arrive here in Rainy Pass to join current Champion Dallas Seavey, I took a quick look at the tracker at what some of the other Iditarod Champions are doing.

Dallas Seavey has surged to the front of the race. Similar to what he did last year, a bit more dominant this time.

His dad Mitch Seavey has already taken a 4 and 3 hr break and is en route to Rainy.

4 Time Champion Lance Mackey is camped a the bottom of the Happy River Steps and has rested 1 hr and 3 hrs respectively

Martin Buser, who is always up for a surprise, is running a real old school schedule. 4 hrs on, 4 hrs off. That will make for some very speedy trail times. Brent Sass is running close to that, more like 5 hrs on, 4.5 hrs off. He seems to have deviated from his long runs he normally is known for.

Jeff King, has rested for 5 hrs and is on the move to here.

Robert Sorlie has rested once for 4 hrs and once for 3 hrs. Robert also used to run long before and chose to try something different.

John Baker is on his second rest break, after taking a 3 hr break earlier on.

Very different run styles this year, but overall, most of the team running a bit more conservatively than in past races. A pattern that also emerged early in the Yukon Quest this year, and that race really heated up in the end, with some VERY long runs.
