Windy Run over Norton Sound

The wind had picked up a bit in Shaktoolik, by the shelter cabin it was blowing harder yet, and about 30 miles out was about the worst of it. Here in Koyuk it is relatively calm. I am sure the teams will enjoy that.

5th team out was was Wade Marrs, sitting down and double ski poling. He had stayed in Shaktoolik for 2 hours, gave his dogs a meal, and got some hot food himself before heading over Norton Sound

4th team out was Aliy Zirkle; she was camped out. We talked for a moment and she was in a good mood This is the 2nd time in 24 hours I am camping out with a wonderful 360 degree view. She referred to her campout yesterday on the Kaltag Portage. Taking straw would not work in these conditions, it would be just blowing away.

3rd team out was Dallas Seavey. He was hunkered down between his seat, to reduce the wind drag as much as possible. Dallas had camped out at the shelter cabin for a couple of hours.

2nd team out was Mitch Seavey, sitting on his seat, as usual. He is still not helping his dogs and was clipping along nicely.

1st team out was Brent Sass, who is currently in lead. Had stopped and was snacking his dogs. He seemingly loved the conditions. Brent thrives in windy conditions, or generally adverse conditions. Once he completed snacking his gang, he pulled to hook and I got a few shots in. He soon entered a specially windy spot and I took a few more. Brent should stay here for a while, after coming off a nonstop run from Unalakleet.

Enjoy! Brent should be here within the hour. The Koyuk Checkpoint is ready and bristling with activity. Internet is a challenging here the iInsider crew is working hard on setting up a usable connection to upload the videos they took.
