Biography
Bill Steyer was born in Pennsylvania on March 24, 1958. He attended the University of Washington with a B.A. in Enviromental Studies. He worked for the U.S. Enviromental Protection Agency for five years and moved to Fairbanks Alaska in 1994.
Bill has ran the Yukon Quest several times, finishing 5th in 2003; 6th in 2001 and 20th in 1998. He has also ran the Copper Basin (2003) finishing in 6th place and in 2004 he completed the Tuskemena 200 in 8th place.
Bill says, \”My family and I have lived in Fairbanks for ten years where we operate the Cool Runnings Race Team. Long distance racing events have always been intriging to me. I have competed in four Yukon Quests, many marathons and several triathlons. I have always anticipated competing in the Iditarod.
I have a very young team now and look forward to exposing them to the challanges of this race. I also look forward to meeting some new friends on the trail and seeing a different part of Alaska.\”
Bill is married to Judy and they have two children, Ben, 16 and Saanti, 12
