Biography
Chad Stoddard, 38, (Veteran) was born in Anchorage and spent his childhood in Washington State. He cares for and trains 60 dogs at Happy Trails Kennel in Big Lake, Alaska. In addition to his two Iditarod finishes, including Rookie of the Year in 2021, Chad has competed in the Copper Basin 300, Yukon Quest 300 and Two Rivers 200. Chad credits his friends and family in Alaska for getting him started in mushing. He has family ties to Nenana where his great grandfather Williams Burk Sr. carried mail by dog team around the time of the Serum Run. He says Lance Mackey, Dallas Seavey, Martin Buser, Billy Snodgrass, and Sven Haltman are his biggest mushing heroes and mentors. The Iditarod, for Chad, means honoring relationships “with the dogs, the people and the land.” When not on the sled runners, Chad can be found backpacking, fishing, kayaking, playing basketball, and biking. He works as a tour guide at Happy Trails Kennel.
