Biography

Hanna Lyrek, 26, (Veteran) was born in Anchorage. Her kennel is Headwind Husky/Trasti og Trine in Alta, Norway, in Finnmark, the northernmost part of the country. 60 sled dogs live the good life there. Hanna’s many races include the Bergebyløpet, Femundløpet, Finnmarksløpet, Gold Rush Run, Bæskades, and the Jr. Iditarod. Her mother is an Iditarod finisher, so of course Hanna was born into the sport. She says, “it`s a way of life. I would not be me without it.” Hanna’s biggest mentor is Roger Dahl, “Mr. Finnmarksløpet,” who was her closest neighbor growing up. “He was always there to help. He still runs long distance races at the age of 74 and will be coming to Alaska with me.” Hanna loves the Iditarod because it’s an opportunity for “adventure with my best friends.” Hanna’s off-trail activities include running and fishing. She also works for her family sled dog business where “I pretty much do everything!” Her favorite work is guiding dogsled tours.
