Biography
Bailey Vitello, 28, (Veteran) makes his home in Nenana, Alaska. A second generation musher, Bailey learned from his parents in Milan, New Hampshire. Bailey says, “As the youngest of three brothers, our parents often practiced with us while running their team on the trail. I had the opportunity to watch and learn dog sledding first hand. Those first experiences solidified my love of dog mushing and fueled my passion for working dog sports. I competed in my first “race” when I was barely two years old with my first dog Bridgie.” Bailey has made it his mission to be the youngest musher in each race he enters. His races include the Copper Basin 300, Knik 200, Kobuk 440, Kuskokwim 300, and two Iditarod finishes. Bailey found his passion for the Iditarod “after deciding to run it on a whim and a gut feeling. It turned out to be the best decision we could have made as a team. It was a challenging race that my veteran team took with stride and that almost made me lose it mentally (curse you Yukon River!)” He adds, “This year’s team is a culmination of our targeted breeding program with the assistance of Aaron Burmeister and both of our lineages. His assistance in coaching the team has been an invaluable resource.” Bailey thanks his many sponsors including friends, family, especially his parents and his wife Brianna.
