Musher Details

Lauro Eklund, 30, (Veteran) was born and raised in Alaska. His father, Neil, a two-time Iditarod finisher, spent time with him out in the bush on the Yukon River, logging, trapping, setting nets and hunting. Lauro has raced in many races including the Yukon Quest and many others. He says, “I first got inspired by hearing my dad’s stories of trapping with dogs, running the Iditarod and traveling with dogs. So when I was 17 years old I bought my first dog, Annie. She cost me $600 and two cords of firewood. Since then I’ve had a ton of adventures with dogs and spent way more money than a handful of cash and some driftwood.” Lauro and his dad run Skookum Expeditions out of Fairbanks, where they offer guided hiking trips in addition to sled dog adventures.
