Biography
Keaton Loebrich, 32, (Veteran) was born in Midland, Michigan. Together with his wife Erika, Keaton owns and operates Star Gazers Racing in Fairbanks, Alaska, a 23-dog kennel. Keaton lists many races completed including the Willow 300, Yukon Quest Alaska 300 twice, Percy DeWolfe Memorial Mail Run, Yukon Quest Alaska 550, and T-dog 200. Keaton’s entry into mushing came when he lived next to Husky Homestead in the summer of 2021. “I met Jeff King and the incredible dogs and was hooked,” he says. Keaton says his mentor Jeff King “Is always innovating and never afraid to try something new.” Keaton looks up to Susan Butcher, who inspired him to never lose that sense of adventure, as well as Lance Mackey, whose life lesson to Keaton is “just do what you love. When you love something and are passionate about it, nothing will stop you from accomplishing it.” For Keaton, the Iditarod means “being able to witness and try to keep up with all of our amazing dogs through the good times and the bad and seeing them continuously amaze me every single run.” Keaton also acknowledges all the wonderful Iditarod race volunteers who “always put me in a good mood, even if sometimes I don’t act like it.” Off the runners, Keaton studies astrophysics.
