Biography

Jesse Terry, 42, (Rookie) was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He is married to Mary England and together they have two children,Tevai and Miali. Jesse’s kennel is On The Land Sleddogs based in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, where he cares for and trains 30 sled dogs. Jesse’s many other races include the Beargrease Marathon, Canadian Challenge (200 and 300), Can-Am250, Caledonia 200, and the Hudson Bay Quest 200. Jesse got his start in mushing when his parents acquired sled dogs when he was a kid. Jesse says the musher who inspired him is Hans Gatt, “because he’s a musher that has placed second in Iditarod and then the next year placed 3rd in Fur Rondy, all with the same dogs.” Jesse says he’s looking forward to the Iditarod because he gets to “travel through new country with my best buds.” When not training or racing, Jesse enjoys spending time with his family, riding bikes, canoeing and “back scratches from my wife.” He works as a sled builder at Gatt Sleds.
