Biography

Jody Potts-Joseph, 48, (Rookie) hails from Fairbanks, AK. She is married to Jamey Joseph and has children Isaiah, Jake, Quannah, Jevaughn, and Denali. Jody’s kennel is Raven Clan Kennels located in Eagle Village, Alaska, where she trains and cares for 30 dogs. Jody has raced in the Kobuk 440, Yukon Quest Alaska 200, Two Rivers 200, Copper Basin 300, Percy DeWolfe, Two Rivers 100, and various village races around Interior Alaska. Jody says, “I was raised in the basket of a dog sled. My Uncle Ben Juneby provides me with traditional knowledge from my grandfather and ancestors. My brother Sonny has been a huge inspiration and always took me on dog runs or took me to school with his dog team. He holds a lot of traditional knowledge about sled dogs. Sonny is a really good dog man.” Other mentors include her brother Jessie Holmes and Sven Haltmann, both of whom she worked for over many years. Jody says, “Both Jessie and Sven have provided me with racing tips and knowledge on modern race dogs and racing strategy.” Jody appreciates the Athabascan dog mushers from the Interior who
“talk dogs” and share stories and knowledge. Jody is looking forward to the Iditarod so she can travel across Alaska “with the greatest animals on earth.” Jody pursues skin sewing, beadwork, hunting, fishing, and enjoys cooking for her family. Jody loves being on the Yukon in any season, as well as traveling around the world and swimming. Jody works as a guide, consultant, and producer.
