Biography

Sam Martin, 28, (Rookie) is from Massachusetts and is a part of the 17th Dog Crew in Willow, Alaska. He helps train and race 50 dogs. Sam has raced in the Knik 200, Two Rivers 100/200, and in both distances of the Copper Basin. Sam says he got into mushing “by luck,” and credits Matt Failor and Lauro Eklund for teaching and mentoring him. “They’re great dudes and I have learned a lot from them.” Sam is looking forward to the Iditarod for the chance to be with the dogs on the trail. When not mushing, Sam can be found honoring his New England roots by watching the Celtics.
